The ingestion process is a one-way flow of metadata and content files from you or a content provider to Beat’s systems. This page walks you through the different types of content we distinguish between and how it is ingested into Beat’s service.
When it comes to ingestion we distinguish between two types of content:
‘Audio Shows’ vs ‘Podcasts’
When you think of a podcast, you might simply consider it a digital audio product that is not an audiobook, without giving much thought to how it is distributed.
On the Beat platform, however, the method of distributing an audio product is crucial to how it is handled. Since the audio product commonly referred to as podcasts can be distributed in two ways — either through direct delivery or through RSS-feed — Beat uses the following two terms for distinguishing between these products:
In terms of ingestion the two products are delivered in two very different ways. Please see this schedule that explains the differences:
Audio shows | Podcasts | |
---|---|---|
Hosted | By Beat | By the podcast owner |
Ingestion | ONIX | RSS |
Royalty | Included in reports | Excluded from reports |
